Capacitors are devices which store electric charge. They are usually made from two parallel metal surfaces with some insulating dielectric layer between them. If one of the plates is charged, and the other is grounded, opposite charges will accumulate on it by influence, while the net charge stays zero. The capacitance is the magnitude of charge on one plate Q divided by the voltage V across the plates.
The unit of capacitance is the farad. 1 F = 1As/V
The capacitance of two parallel metal plate of area A and d distance apart (supposed that the lateral sizes of the plates are much bigger than the distance between them) is 
where e is called the permittivity of the insulating material between the plates.
The permittivity of vacuum is e0 = 8.85 ×10-12 As/(Vm).
The capacitance can be increased by applying high permittivity material between the metal plates, like paper, plastic, oil, mica, or ceramic. Typical capacitance values range from about 1 picofarad (pF, 10-12 F) about 1000 microfarads (mF, 10-6 F)

The capacitors are rated according to the voltage that can be safely applied across their terminals - breakdown voltage.

Electrolytic capacitors use aluminium or tantalum plates immersed in a semi-liquid chemical compound which forms a thin insulating oxide layer on one of the electrodes. These types of capacitors are said to be polarized and can be used only in such way that the terminal denoted by “+” is always at higher potential as the “–“ one. Because of the thin oxide layer, the capacitance of the electrolytic capacitor is usually high, 1-1000 mF.
Dipped tantalum capacitors also have high capacitance but small size at the same time. They are made of a sintered tantalum powder core. Because of the pores, it surface is very large. The core is oxidized. The core is dipped into manganese nitrate solution, than put in a furnace where the nitrate decomposes into manganese oxide which fills the pores and serves as the other electrode to the capacitor.

Bridge rectifiers change AC voltage into DC voltage.
They are used in a wide variety of electronics and most often found in AC powered devices,
modern home telephones, simple plug-in power supplies and even in high horsepower motor controllers.
Many modern devices have benefited from these solid-state silicon semiconductor devices,
as they have replaced the failure-prone metal oxide rectifiers used many years ago.
Function
Bridge rectifiers can be either in a 'half wave' or a 'full wave' configuration.
Electrolytic filter capacitors are commonly added to smooth the rectification pulsations.
The device can also be used for assuring that DC (battery) power happens in a fixed way
even if the battery is connected improperly. In modern telephones,
they assure proper connectivity and electrical isolation to the incoming phone lines.
Even if the phone wires are miswired, the phone will still work properly.

Description
HC-49S crystals share the same base outline as the industry standard HC49 crystal. The crystal uses at AT-cut strip crystal with an hermetically sealed can. HC-49S crystals provide a low cost source of system clock frequency.
Multilayer ceramic capacitors with silver/palladium (Ag/Pd)terminations have often been used in medical applications where non-magnetic components are required, for example in MRI equipment. The use of conventional nickel barrier terminations is not suitable due to nickel exhibiting magnetic properties.
However, RoHS requirements have dictated the use of lead-free solders, and the composition of these solders has resulted in an increase in soldering temperatures. This has caused solder leaching problems for the Ag/Pd termination, and meant alternative terminations have had to be found.
This copper barrier termination is offered with selected nonmagnetic C0G/NP0, High Q and X7R dielectrics, providing a fully non-magnetic component.

Is it possible to obtain more pulses than twice the number of phases in a rectifier circuit? The answer to this question is yes: especially in polyphase circuits. Through the creative use of transformers, sets of full-wave rectifiers may be paralleled in such a way that more than six pulses of DC are produced for three phases of AC. A 30o phase shift is introduced from primary to secondary of a three-phase transformer when the winding configurations are not of the same type. In other words, a transformer connected either Y-Δ or Δ-Y will exhibit this 30o phase shift, while a transformer connected Y-Y or Δ-Δ will not. This phenomenon may be exploited by having one transformer connected Y-Y feed a bridge rectifier, and have another transformer connected Y-Δ feed a second bridge rectifier, then parallel the DC outputs of both rectifiers. Since the ripple voltage waveforms of the two rectifiers' outputs are phase-shifted 30o from one another, their superposition results in less ripple than either rectifier output considered separately: 12 pulses per 360o instead of just six
